How to Remove Stains From Natural Stone Countertops?
Although granite is a very popular choice for many homeowners, a lot of people are unsure how to clean it. If you stained natural stone, don’t worry. It can be cleaned most of the time, but in order to remove the stain, first you need to determine what kind of stain you have, as that it will determine the process of removal. Since stone is porous, you can sometimes remove the stain by reversing the staining process. Try to remove the stain as soon as possible. The longer you leave it, the more it will penetrate into the stone. In order to determine what kind of stain it is, ask the following questions:
- What’s the color?
- How long has it been there?
- Are there plants near it?
- Where is located? Etc
Once the stain has been identified, the best method for the removal can be determined. Do not use any ammonia, vinegar, or lemon or any other cleaners containing acidic formulas. Some stains are so deeply imbedded that you would need to add a chemical solution to the poultice to dilute and/or react with the stain. Make sure you test in a small area. The process can be simple: Mix Poultice Plus Powder with distilled water and make a paste-like substance with a consistency similar to peanut butter. Apply the paste to the stain and do not let any excess drip or spill onto adjacent areas that are clean. The paste should be applied approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cover the area with plastic wrap and secure the edges. The poultice must dry completely. It usually takes about 24 to 48 hours to dry, depending on the type of poultice. As the poultice dries, it will pull the stain from the area into the paste. Us cotton balls, paper towels, or a fabric to remove the paste. If the stain looks better, re-apply the poultice. Multiple applications may be required.

Sometimes chemicals that are necessary for stain removal will remove the finish on polished marble, limestone, terrazzo and travertine. As a result, re-polishing may be necessary.
